After another failed season, there have been talks that Chelsea want to sign ready-made players this summer. Of course, after what we have seen from BlueCo over the last four years, most fans have adopted a ‘wait and watch’ policy instead of getting excited.
That has not stopped speculation from growing about certain players Chelsea could end up signing. And one name that has been doing the rounds of the rumour mill for several months now is Vinicius Jr.
Vinicius was considered arguably the best player in the world even a couple of years back. He has slipped down the pecking order at Real Madrid, in terms of importance, since the arrival of Kylian Mbappe. On top of that, he has not agreed to a contract extension with Los Blancos yet, leading to further speculation about his future.
Vinicius has continued to perform at an elite level, though. If Chelsea were to sign him, he would probably be the club’s best player from the get-go. That fits the definition of ‘ready-made’. But are the Blues interested in a move or it is just a rumour?
Chelsea’s stance on signing Vinicius Jr from Real Madrid
According to Romain Molina (via Get French Football News), Vinicius’ agents have toured “the all of Europe” over a potential transfer away from Real Madrid for the Brazilian winger. But no club seems to be considering a move for him. Even Chelsea currently have no interest in signing the former Ballon d’Or contender.
Of course, the finances involved in such a move would make it difficult for any club to consider it, unless he becomes available as a free agent at some point.
It would be even more difficult for Chelsea as they are likely to miss out on Champions League football. The club recently posted record losses in the region of £264 million. On top of that, they were fined by UEFA last summer and will need to work under financial boundaries. So, a move for Vinicius would probably be impossible to pull off, even if they wanted him.
Chelsea don’t want Vinicius, but who do they want?
It will be very interesting to see what kind of players Chelsea target in the name of ‘ready-made’ players. Will they go for some of the best in the Premier League from clubs outside the traditional Big Six? Or will they continue to back their scouting and make additions that don’t exactly excite the fans?
This summer transfer window might very well be the most important one for BlueCo. Finally, there seems to be a recognition that things are not going to work out if they continue on this path.
But do they have what it takes to put things right? Or has the damage already been done? We shall find out soon.
