Coming into the game against Brighton & Hove Albion, Liam Rosenior talked about how Chelsea needed to arrest their form. The Blues had lost four games on the trot in the league without scoring once. Also, they had just one win in their last eight Premier League outings. But unfortunately, things started off even worse on their visit to the Amex Stadium.
Brighton started off the game brilliantly and were a goal up within the opening few minutes. It was Ferdi Kadioglu who opened the scoring for the home team. It was also his first goal of the season.
On the other hand, Rosenior’s side made some more history but of the wrong kind. This was the earliest Chelsea have conceded from a corner in the Premier League since Boxing Day 2003.
Of course, Chelsea have looked suspect at the back all season. And based on how they have started the game against Brighton, it would not come as any surprise if they concede a few more by the time the referee blows the final whistle.
Chelsea could make more unwanted history by the end of the game
Of course, Rosenior’s Chelsea never seem far away from breaking some unwanted records. In fact, if they lose this match without scoring, they will match a feat that has stood for over 100 years.
It was in 1912 that Chelsea last lost five league games in a row without scoring. The club was just seven years old at that point, having been founded in 1905.
It is safe to say that Chelsea will want to avoid that. But the way things are going, nothing should come as a surprise to the supporters anymore. This is relegation form that the Blues are in. Fortunately, they are not in that danger.
Rosenior’s sacking must be seriously considered if they lose to Brighton
There has been all this talk about backing Rosenior and giving him next pre-season to fix things. If you ask me, that should not even be a consideration any longer.
It is quite clear that he is out of his depth here. In fact, Chelsea should consider sacking him immediately and handing Calum McFarlane interim charge until the end of the season. It literally cannot get any worse.
Anyways, all we can do is wait and watch how things unfold. BlueCo have their own way of doing things, and it is very likely Rosenior is going to remain manager, at least until the end of the season, no matter how things go.
