Chelsea have managed to make some history. For the first time since 1912, they have lose five Premier League games on the trot without scoring a single goal. It has taken some doing to match a feat that had stood over a hundred years, that is for sure.
Liam Rosenior had talked about his team not having any luck against Manchester United. But the same cannot be applied here.
Chelsea were completely outplayed from the very first minute. They were nowhere near Brighton on the day. The 3-0 result was justified. And this might very well be the lowest point of the BlueCo era.
Here are three things we learned from Brighton’s one-sided victory over Rosenior’s sorry Chelsea side:
Liam Rosenior’s sacking is inevitable
This is not going anywhere. Those who have seen enough football in their lives know that Rosenior getting sacked is inevitable. He looks completely out of his depth.
Of course, one can point out that he has not assembled this squad. But then again, he is not getting anything out of a squad that had looked good enough to make the Champions League, even in the first half of this very season.
Now, it is about how long BlueCo are going to prolong this. Giving him the next pre-season would be a mistake. Bring in a proven manager and allow him to rebuild the team in his vision. Carrying on with Rosenior would risk the upcoming campaign as well. This one is as good as finished.
Chelsea likely to miss European football altogether
By now, it is evident that Chelsea won’t be in the Champions League next season. I feel they won’t make any of the European competitions. What sort of financial impact will it have? Massive. It will definitely make the next summer window a lot tougher to navigate and make it likely for key players to push for moves away, and understandably so.
This team looks completely lifeless at the moment. This is relegation form, truth be told. It is a good thing that the Blues are not in danger of that.
But look at what has happened with Tottenham Hotspur. BlueCo are running the same risk if things do not change soon.
Rosenior era shows everything wrong with BlueCo ownership
The Rosenior era has shown everything that is wrong with the BlueCo think-tank. Most fans thought it was not a good idea to appoint the Englishman.
He simply did not have the resume for the job. He had done well at Strasbourg and Hull City, but Chelsea is a completely different level. Not everybody can cope with that. Rosenior clearly has not been able to.
BlueCo pushed ahead with their decision though. His presence within the club structure seemed more important than his quality as a manager. The results are there for all to see.
