Chelsea sack three first-team staff amid Liam Rosenior pressure

Share

Following a strong finish last season, in which Chelsea won the Conference League and were also crowned World Champions after beating Paris Saint-Germain in the final, hopes were high for their young team. Many felt that the BlueCo project was finally coming together, and they were ready to push for the Premier League and compete in the Champions League.

However, fast forward to today and Chelsea have hit a new low after their recent loss against Brighton. The Blues have now lost all of their last five Premier League matches and slipped down to seventh position. Their Champions League qualification hopes are as good as over.

As a result, Liam Rosenior has been put under the microscope. The Chelsea boss, who has not been at the club for long, might be shown the door in the near future. In the meantime, some first-team have already departed.

The Sun have reported that Chelsea have sacked three first-team staff members. Former academy coach Ed Brand is one of them. The club are said to have made the cuts after confirmation of their huge losses.

Chelsea have sacked three first-team staff members

Chelsea recently disclosed a record £262.4 million pre-tax loss for the last season. So needless to say, performing well on the pitch has now become crucial. And Rosenior’s team is failing miserably at that.

Fans are growing restless and are asking for the manager’s sacking. Although the initial expectation was that his performance would not be reviewed until the summer of 2027, that feels impossible in the face of these results.

Nevertheless, Chelsea are headed towards a trophyless season. While the club are still alive in the FA Cup, nothing short of a miracle is needed for them to go all the way in the competition.

That said, what is even more concerning is that the Blues won’t be able to play in the Champions League if they don’t finish in the top five in the league. And honestly speaking, that door is on the verge of being shut as well. This would mean a huge financial hit for Chelsea.

How Rosenior should proceed now

There’s no point in beating around the bush. Rosenior is expected to be shown the exit door sooner rather than later. Each game is important in deciding his future, so the pressure is immense. Some rumours have even cropped up suggesting he said his goodbye to the players and staff after the Brighton game.

If that is not the case and he remains in the job for the time being, the English manager will have to keep his calm and try to implement the necessary tactical changes to improve Chelsea’s performance. Is he capable of doing that? We are unsure. The club will face Leeds United in the FA Cup semi-finals next.

On paper, Chelsea are the favourites. But the club’s recent displays would hardly support that. Will Rosenior still be the manager by that point? If not, it is likely going to be Calum McFarlane in interim charge until the end of the season.
