A lot of changes have taken place at Chelsea recently. Three first-team staff members have been dismissed. Additionally, Liam Rosenior has been sacked as well after less than four months in charge at the club. Calum McFarlane has been trusted as the interim boss for now. But the search is on for a more experienced manager to replace him at the end of the season.
A lot of names have been popping up as potential candidates for the Chelsea job. In the meantime, reports have claimed that an unlikely name has also been added to this list.
According to TEAMtalk, Matthias Jaissle has emerged on Chelsea’s radar as the club search for a new manager. He is among a number of names being assessed.
The report goes on to add that Chelsea have already done significant background work on Jaissle. Could Stamford Bridge be his next destination?
Chelsea consider appointing Matthias Jaissle as their next manager
Jaissle moved to Saudi Arabia in 2023 after leaving RB Salzburg. Al-Ahli are currently third in the Pro League and have also qualified for the final of the AFC Champions League. He also guided them to triumph in the elite continental competition once in the past.
Notably, Jaissle doesn’t have any Premier League experience. But at the same time, he has managed some world-class players during his managerial career, including Riyad Mahrez, Ivan Toney, Franck Kessie, among others.
Whether that would be enough to secure a job at Chelsea remains to be seen. This is particularly true as Rosenior’s failure was largely due to his lack of experience managing an elite team before.
Why the Blues should look elsewhere
Chelsea currently need a manager who can provide a clear direction to the players. The trial-and-error method has proven too costly this season. In fact, the Blues are on the verge of going empty-handed in this campaign if they fail to win the FA Cup. Champions League qualification also feels unlikely now.
As a result, someone proven and with experience at elite clubs should be brought in. Jose Mourinho, Andoni Iraola, and Julian Nagelsmann are some of the individuals to be linked with Chelsea recently. Not to play down Jaissle’s accomplishments, but honestly speaking, any of the mentioned names possess a stronger CV for the job. At least at the European level.
Jaissle is the type of manager that BlueCo should look to hand the Strasbourg job, with a few to move to Stamford Bridge if he succeeds in France. But directly jumping to Chelsea might be too big of an ask.
All things considered, there’s no need for Chelsea to rush, as they still have plenty of time to find their perfect candidate. However, in this instance, the new manager must bring an immediate positive change to the squad, that’s for certain.
