Unsurprisingly, most of the news surrounding Chelsea right now is about potential managerial appointments. The club sacked Liam Rosenior recently. Calum McFarlane has been handed the interim role until the end of the campaign. But in the long run, a permanent solution is needed.
BlueCo will know that they need to get this appointment right. After four years of inconsistency and a lack of success, their project is at risk of being derailed completely as they face fan backlash and a worrying financial situation.
So, who will end up being the next Chelsea manager? Your guess is as good as mine. Quite a few interesting names are doing the rounds of the media though.
Antonio Conte Chelsea return?
Antonio Conte won a Premier League title with Chelsea. That was the last time they reached the peak of English football. He was also an FA Cup winner, once again, the final one to do so.
Conte has continued winning since then. He has won Serie A titles with both Inter Milan and Napoli since his Chelsea exit. Of course, his stint at Tottenham Hotspur was not nearly as successful.
Could a return to Chelsea be on the cards? Some reports in Italy suggest that he is being considered for the role. It remains to be seen how accurate they are.
Diego Simeone suggested
Diego Simeone has been one of the most high-profile managers of this generation, even though his success might not stack up to the likes of Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho. What he has been able to achieve at Atletico Madrid is a feat in itself though. His achievements can be compared to that of Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
William Gallas has suggested that if Chelsea want someone to deliver immediate success, they should consider hiring Simeone. But would he even consider the role? And even if he does, would his style suit this squad?
Cesc Fabregas a ‘leading candidate’
Another name that continues to be linked with Chelsea is that of Cesc Fabregas. The midfielder won two Premier League titles with the club, under Mourinho and Conte. Now, could he return as a manager himself?
That might very well be a possibility. Fabregas is currently enjoying a ton of success managing Como FC in Italy.
It has been claimed that Fabregas has emerged as a ‘leading candidate’ for Chelsea as they seek to replace Rosenior in the summer.
