Chelsea fans are hoping to see a few familiar faces back at the club this summer. Cesc Fabregas is a manager who is viewed as a good fit for this team. Felipe Luis has been suggested as a potential target as well. It remains to be seen where the managerial search will go over the coming weeks and months. But there is one player who is definitely going to be making a return to Stamford Bridge after this season.
One of Chelsea’s biggest weaknesses has been their inability to score goals consistently. Joao Pedro has done a decent job and is the highest scorer. But they do not have another forward in form.
Liam Delap has been a complete flop since his summer move from Ipswich Town. And understandably, most Chelsea fans believe that the club would be much better placed if they had just kept hold of Nicolas Jackson instead.
Well, they might get the chance to do that. According to Fabrizio Romano, Bayern Munich will not activate the €65m buy option clause for Jackson. He will head back to Chelsea. They will assess all options for a new move in the summer transfer window, with many clubs already keen.
Does Jackson have a future at Chelsea?
Chelsea should consider keeping Jackson rather than finding him a new move this summer. It is very clear that he is better than whatever Delap is producing at the moment.
Yes, Jackson’s finishing did let him down at times. But he still did manage to score 30 goals over his two seasons at Chelsea. Also, he was excellent when it came to holding up the ball and carrying it forward, and he made those around him better. Cole Palmer, for example, played his best football when combining with the Senegalese striker.
Also, one would imagine that Jackson would have picked a few things up, having played a season with Harry Kane. He has scored 10 goals and provided four assists in 1151 minutes of football for Bayern Munich, which is a very good return for a backup striker. So, Chelsea should try to convince him to continue at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea should sign an elite striker in the summer
There are also those who feel that Chelsea should sign an elite striker in the summer. Someone who will put goals up consistently, like Kane at Bayern Munich, Erling Haaland at Manchester City and only a few others across football.
Of course, finding that kind of goalscorer is not easy. Julian Alvarez is someone who the Blues have been linked with lately.
Convincing top players to join the club after failing to qualify for the Champions League would be difficult though. On the other hand, if there is one striker who does leave in the summer, it has to be Delap.
