Breaking: Chelsea ready to make contact with Xabi Alonso’s agents

Share

With Chelsea sacking Liam Rosenior after just 107 days in charge at Stamford Bridge, the club now need to find a replacement for him. And BlueCo are under immense pressure to make the right appointment this time around. The four seasons under their watch have been marked by inconsistent results and a lack of success. As a result, a large section of the fanbase has grown frustrated and are seeking change.

Sacking Rosenior was the right step, as he looked out of his depth. But are they capable of getting the managerial appointment correct this time around?

Let’s not forget, the same people who thought handing Rosenior the Chelsea job was a good idea will likely be trying to find his replacement. Naturally, fans are not overly optimistic about what lies ahead.

That being said, it looks like there could be a change in approach from Chelsea this time around. And Xabi Alonso has emerged as a contender for the post.

Chelsea set to make contact with Xabi Alonso’s representatives

According to The Telegraph, Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva and Alonso are among the managers Chelsea will make checks on. Contact with representatives will be made to determine the plans of those three as well as others.

The report further goes on to state that the process is being led by the club’s sporting directors. It is also noteworthy that Chelsea are planning to change their strategy and want to appoint a manager with top-level experience.

That sounds promising. Now, let’s see if Chelsea are able to deliver. Alonso is a proven winner, both as a player and as a manager. So, he would be the ideal appointment in the eyes of most fans. Can the Blues convince him to take over the project though, after all the stumbles over the past four years?

Alonso could be perfect for this role

If Chelsea want to bring in someone like Alonso, they might need to tweak their model as well. The Spaniard will surely want more say over matters than what the club’s recent managers are believed to have gotten.

That being said, the talk was that Rosenior was involved in the club’s summer transfer plans before his sacking. Perhaps that change was already being implemented. We will find out soon.

Alonso might be exactly what Chelsea need at this time. At Bayer Leverkusen, he showed that he is capable of winning with a young team, given time to implement his ideas.

Of course, some surprise names could crop up between now and the season as well. As the report also stated, there are believed to be other, so far unnamed, candidates Chelsea are considering
