It is very difficult to predict what BlueCo are going to do when it comes to the Chelsea managerial search this summer. The club had no other choice but to sack Liam Rosenior after their worst run of form since 1912. That appointment was thought to be a bad idea to begin with, and unfortunately, the doubters were proven right.
Now, the hope is that BlueCo change their strategy when it comes to hiring managers. The club need a proven winner. Someone who would restore the feeling that Chelsea are a big team and get them competing for trophies again.
In modern football, the manager is arguably the most important figure at a club. So, BlueCo need to get this appointment right as Chelsea stand at a crossroads, both financially and performance-wise.
The club have been linked with names like Xabi Alonso, Xavi, Andoni Iraola and Cesc Fabregas. But then, there are some others on the shortlist. Those who would not excite the fans but continue to be monitored by BlueCo if reports are accurate.
Sunderland manager is on Chelsea’s radar
According to CaughtOffside, if the big names fail to materialise, Chelsea have a backup plan warming up in the wings. Regis Le Bris of Sunderland is on their radar.
Admittedly, Le Bris has done an excellent job at Sunderland. Taking charge of the club in the Championship, he was able to get them promoted. And then, he has guided them to a mid-table finish at worst.
Sunderland are just two points behind Chelsea in the Premier League table after 34 matchdays. There is a very good chance that they might finish ahead of the Blues by the time this season comes to an end. That just shows how good of a job Le Bris has done.
Is Le Bris what Chelsea need right now?
To be honest, I do not feel like Le Bris would be the right manager for Chelsea at this point in time. They need someone who will come in and immediately command the respect of the squad. We all know how things turned out for Rosenior.
Le Bris is a pretty good coach, without a doubt. But that does not mean that the success at Sunderland would translate to Chelsea. There has to be a step in between those two.
If Chelsea go on to appoint Le Bris, it would be another experiment on the part of BlueCo. And the last few have not turned out well, let’s just say that.
