There is no doubt that Chelsea need to strengthen their ranks this summer. The current squad has failed to show any kind of consistency. For the first few months of the season, they had looked like potential contenders in the Premier League. But their form faded away quickly. Two managers have already been sacked in this campaign and they are set to miss out on the Champions League qualification spots.
For years, Chelsea fans have been calling for some proven quality and experience to be added to this youthful squad. Finally, BlueCo might be willing to listen.
Going into the summer, it looks like Chelsea are eyeing Premier League-proven talents. And one of their past transfer targets is seemingly back on their radar.
According to The Athletic, Chelsea are interested in signing Anthony Gordon. Also, any potential transfer is not believed to be dependent on the club qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
Chelsea interested in move for Anthony Gordon
Well, it is not hard to see why Chelsea are interested in Gordon. He has scored 17 goals this season, with 10 of them coming in the Champions League. Of course, his numbers need to be better domestically, but overall, the winger has caught the eye during what has been an underwhelming campaign for the Magpies overall.
One also cannot overlook Chelsea’s lack of quality on the left flank. The club signed Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens last summer. But so far, neither has been able to convince. In fact, it is believed the Blues are willing to part ways with the former this summer.
So, someone like Gordon would certainly improve Chelsea’s ranks. It is also worth pointing out that the club were linked with him back in the summer of 2022, the first one under the BlueCo ownership.
Are Newcastle United willing to let Gordon go?
It appears that Newcastle United are open to the idea of Gordon leaving. The report goes on to state that the exit of a player such as Gordon for the right transfer fee would help finance a sizeable squad overhaul.
Of course, Chelsea are not the only club with an interest in Gordon. Bayern Munich and Arsenal are said to be keeping an eye on him as well.
So, signing Gordon will not be simple. It remains to be seen if Chelsea do end up making a serious push for him or not.
