Chelsea will be looking to strengthen their squad in the upcoming summer transfer window. That is what the reports suggest. It appears that even BlueCo are starting to realise that they have made far too many errors over the past few years and want to change things up. This current roster is nowhere near good enough to be consistently competing with the best in England and in Europe, as has been proven time and again over the last four campaigns.
Naturally, Chelsea have their fair share of transfer targets heading into the summer. But one player who had been linked with them heavily for months has now completed a U-turn and is not set to move at all.
We are, of course, talking about Kobbie Mainoo. He was not part of Manchester United’s plans while Ruben Amorim was their manager. As a result, an exit seemed inevitable. And Chelsea were believed to be the outright frontrunners to sign him.
Mainoo’s fortunes have changed since the appointment of Michael Carrick though. He is now starting consistently and that has coincided with Manchester United’s performances and results improving by a significant margin.
Manchester United agree extension with Kobbie Mainoo
Manchester United and Mainoo have agreed on a new five-year contract extension. The news has been confirmed by Fabrizio Romano.
That means that Chelsea’s hopes of signing the Manchester United midfielder are as good as over, at least for now. They will need to turn their attention elsewhere.
To be fair, this had been coming after the amount of football Mainoo has played under Carrick. So, one would imagine Chelsea would have already been looking at alternative options. Let’s see if they end up signing a midfielder this summer.
Chelsea midfielder could undergo summer transformation
It looks like Chelsea’s midfield could be set to undergo a bit of a transformation this summer. There is uncertainty around the future of Enzo Fernandez. On the other hand, some reports have claimed that they might be open to offers for Romeo Lavia and Andrey Santos.
Lavia has spent the last three seasons dealing with injury problems and has barely been available. On the other hand, Santos has failed to meet expectations that were set for him after an exceptional loan spell at Strasbourg.
Chelsea have been linked with a variety of midfielders recently as well. That includes the likes of Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, Noah Sadiki, and several others.
