Chelsea handed major Nick Woltemade transfer boost

Share

Chelsea have been linked with Nick Woltemade in recent weeks. This is not the first time either. The Blues were believed to be interested in him last summer as well. But eventually, he ended up at Newcastle United as the replacement for Alexander Isak. Let’s just say that things have not gone according to plan.

Woltemade had made a blistering start to life in Newcastle colours. He scored four goals in his first five Premier League appearances. But it was not long before the goals dried up for him.

In fact, the last time Woltemade scored in the league was back in mid-December. It was a brace that earned Newcastle United a 2-2 draw. The opponent? Chelsea, of course.

Woltemade has struggled without a doubt. But is that down to his inability to deliver in the Premier League? Or is it how he has been used at Newcastle United? Anyways, if Chelsea do indeed want to sign him, their chances have been handed a boost.

Chelsea’s chances of signing Nick Woltemade boosted

It looks like Woltemade is eyeing a move away from Newcastle United after just one season. According to CF Bayern Insider, Falk said:

“Normally, Nick Woltemade wouldn’t want to leave Newcastle in the summer. However, we’ve all seen his socials (and, more specifically, what’s no longer on his socials.

“There is some background to this. There was an article from an English newspaper, and I think Woltemade is aware that the reporter in question is very close to Eddie Howe. It could be that perhaps the German feels the sentiment within the report is shared by his manager. I can say that, perhaps, this is true.

“This is why they could come to a new conclusion about what the next season holds for all parties involved.”

Obviously, it is not hard to understand why Woltemade might be keen on a move away from Newcastle United. He has found himself on the bench quite often in recent weeks. And that is not the position that a striker of his potential would want to be in.

That does boost Chelsea’s chances of signing him. Then again, a lot will depend on what Newcastle United want. If they are looking to recoup what they paid for him, it would be difficult to convince other clubs to pay that kind of money for a striker with seven Premier League goals to his name and a four-plus-month goalless run to go with it.

Would Woltemade be a good signing for Chelsea?

The thing is, Woltemade brings a unique profile. And his underwhelming spell at Newcastle United does not change that.

Strikers of his size should not have the ability that he does. That has not exactly translated at Newcastle United. But then again, he has not gotten a fair shot at it either.

It looks like Eddie Howe prefers a different type of number 9 altogether. So, it might be the best step for Woltemade to look for a new club this summer. Could that be Chelsea?
