Man United pushing to sign player Chelsea let go for just £18m

Share

It is no secret that Chelsea never really managed to replace Eden Hazard on the left flank. They might have had the answer right under their noses though, but never really managed to use him properly. But he has rebuilt his career since leaving and now, a return to the Premier League could be on the cards. Manchester United are waiting in the wings.

Manchester United and Chelsea both found themselves in similar situations at the mid-way point of this season. Both parted with their managers. But things turned out differently.

Manchester United have been solid under Michael Carrick and are set to qualify for the Champions League. On the other hand, Chelsea endured historically bad form under Liam Rosenior before sacking him as well.

That gives Manchester United a chance to improve their squad in the summer. Champions League football means added revenue as well as the ability to attract better quality players. But it looks like they have someone on their sights who Chelsea did not think was good enough.

Manchester United eyeing move for former Chelsea winger

The player I am talking about is none other than Christian Pulisic. The American winger showed glimpses of quality throughout his time at Chelsea. He was excellent in the second half of the 19/20 campaign. And he had some phenomenal performances during the club’s Champions League-winning run as well.

But at the end of the day, he was never used to his full potential. Ultimately, the club parted ways for a transfer fee in the region of £18 million. That has proven to be a bargain for AC Milan as he has arguably been their best player since joining the San Siro outfit.

Now, according to TEAMtalk, Pulisic is on the radar of Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window. They have been offered the chance to sign Rafael Leao but his AC Milan teammate is viewed as a potentially better fit for the club.

Chelsea’s left winger problem remains since Eden Hazard’s move to Real Madrid

So, Chelsea could end up regretting their decision to part ways with Pulisic for what has proven to be a very low transfer fee. It remains to be seen if Manchester United are able to sign him or not.

At his best, Pulisic can deliver in the Premier League. We have already seen that. So, adjustment should not be a problem for the American international.

Ironically, the left flank remains a problem position for Chelsea. They signed Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens last summer but neither has proven to be a quality addition.
