Chelsea are already preparing for the upcoming transfer window even as they carry on with their underwhelming campaign. At best, they might be able to finish sixth in the Premier League. In the FA Cup, they are in the final, but Manchester City stand in their way of silverware.
The Blues have undoubtedly been poor in almost every area but their defence has been the biggest problem of all. Levi Colwill’s season was derailed even before it began as he suffered an ACL injury in pre-season training. The Blues’ other centre-backs failed to fill his void.
According to some reports, the club management is having second thoughts about carrying on with their transfer policy of signing just youngsters. The club are thought to be open to bringing in a bit of experience into the team this summer.
Chelsea lining up transfer offer for Strahinja Pavlovic
As reported earlier, the Blues have seemingly identified AC Milan’s Strahinja Pavlovic as a key transfer target for this summer. According to Calciomercato, Chelsea seems poised to present an offer in the coming weeks.
Although the Italian side are looking to extend Pavlovic’s stay at the club at least until 2031. But the Blues could be looking to hamper the Rossoneri’s renewal efforts during the transfer window.
The Serbian international has played a key role in Milan’s defence this season under manager Massimiliano Allegri. They have only conceded 27 goals in 34 Serie A games so far, the best in the league, compared to the 48 goals they conceded in the previous campaign.
What Pavlovic would bring to the table for Chelsea
Pavlovic seems to be a player with all the tools of a modern centre-back, as he is not only good inside his own box but has also proven to be pivotal in the opponents’ one as well. He has already racked up five goals and an assist across all competitions for his side.
The 24-year-old is known for his aggressive style of play, a quality which the Blues’ centre-backs have been missing since Antonio Rudiger left. Pavlovic’s height would certainly be a decisive factor in aerial duels for the English side going forward.
Apart from his defensive qualities, the sturdy Serbian is also known for his brilliant ball distribution from the back, which shows the level of confidence he has in his abilities. That combination could come in handy for any manager who takes charge of the club next season.
