Under the BlueCo ownership, Chelsea have consistently tried to sign the best youngsters from around world football. Of course, such moves are always risky. Only a select number of players manage to reach their potential. And it is always difficult to predict. Unsurprisingly, most of the Blues’ signings have not worked out, one of the primary reasons they find themselves in their current predicament.
Of course, when it comes to developing youngsters, Barcelona are arguably the best in the world. Just look at their squad. So many have come through La Masia over the years to become world-class players. Lionel Messi. Andres Iniesta. Xavi. Sergio Busquets. Lamine Yamal looks to be on that path as well.
So, it was no surprise that Chelsea had their eyes on La Masia talents. And one they were able to sign is Marc Guiu.
The Blues paid his €6 million release clause to bring him to England. But he has struggled for game time, and could be eyeing a return to Spain already.
Marc Guiu eyeing return to Spain on loan
According to Mundo Deportivo, a loan to a Spanish club would be Guiu’s preferred option. But Chelsea still believe he should go to a Premier League team to gain experience and demonstrate his potential.
It is worth mentioning that Chelsea did send him out on loan to Sunderland last summer. He even scored a goal for them in his three appearances. But he was recalled before the month of August had even ended.
That was because Liam Delap had picked up an injury. But Nicolas Jackson did not want to stay and was on his way to join Bayern Munich on loan. So, the club decided that bringing back the inexperienced Guiu was the best route possible.
Chelsea need to send Guiu out on loan this summer
Guiu’s contract with Chelsea is believed to run until the summer of 2029. So, the Blues won’t be keen to give up on him just yet.
A loan move seems to be the most likely path for him this summer. Jackson is set to return from his loan spell at Bayern Munich after the German club have decided not to take up the option to sign him permanently. Emmanuel Emegha will be joining from Strasbourg as well with the deal agreed months back.
Chelsea have been linked with a few other forwards as well. Julian Alvarez, Victor Osimhen and even Donyell Malen might be names they are interested in. So, it is hard to see a place for Guiu in first-team plans. He would be much better-placed going out on loan somewhere with first-team opportunities available.
