Chelsea’s best signing of the BlueCo era has been Cole Palmer. Yes, the Englishman has been going through a rough patch lately but on top of his game, the Blues simply don’t have another player of his quality. Just look at what he did against PSG in the Club World Cup final. Those are the levels that he can hit on his day. It is just about finding his fitness and confidence again.
Since signing Palmer, Chelsea have been linked with quite a few of Manchester City’s players. They might be looking to repeat the trick they pullled off in 2023 with Palmer’s signing.
Defence is an area where Chelsea need to strengthen in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Blues’ lack of quality at centre-back has been quite evident this season in the absence of Levi Colwill, who suffered an ACL injury in pre-season training.
Trevoh Chalobah has been the club’s best in that position this season. But most fans believe he is not good enough to even be starting. That is the gap between the aspirations and where the Blues are currently. So, do not be surprised if they try to sign a centre-back or two this summer. And it looks like one of Manchester City’s brightest prospects is on their radar.
Chelsea make contact looking to sign one of Manchester City’s defenders
According to an exclusive report from Aaron Ramiro, Chelsea have made contact with Abdukodir Khusanov’s representatives. They view the Manchester City defender as a potential option to bolster their defence this summer.
It was just last summer that Manchester City signed Khusanov. He did not play much in the first half of the season. But he has grown over time.
The 22-year-old is now a regular starter in Pep Guardiola’s team. So, it is hard to imagine that they would be willing to let him go. And the player himself might not be willing to join a club without Champions League football on offer. So, this does not feel like a transfer story that is headed anywhere of note.
A move for Khusanov would be difficult to pull off
It remains to be seen who Chelsea end up signing as their centre-back this summer. Of course, Khusanov is not the only one they have been linked with.
Another is Strahinja Pavlovic of AC Milan. There have been reports in Italy that the Blues are set to make an offer for him in the coming weeks.
It remains to be seen if that is true or not. There could be a few decent options available in the Premier League as well. Let’s just hope whoever is signed is a proven player rather than another project signing.
