It looks like things might be starting to heat up when it comes to Chelsea’s managerial search. Over the last couple of days, there have been a few positive updates regarding Xabi Alonso. While nothing is done, or probably even close, things might be moving in the right direction.
On the other hand, it looks like Chelsea will continue to try and sign some of the best youngsters, despite also eyeing ‘ready-made’ players this summer. And a German winger is quickly emerging as a potential signing for the summer.
So, as always, there is a lot to talk about when it comes to Chelsea, whether it be the next manager or potential summer transfers.
Xabi Alonso is now being offered control
One of the main talking points surrounding the next appointment is how much say the manager will get. Any top coach would want reassurances before taking the job, having seen how things have turned out for the previous ones at Stamford Bridge.
Now, reports have emerged that Chelsea might be willing to offer that. According to Simon Phillips, the Blues are offering Alonso more control, which is what the Spaniard has asked for.
Alonso has made it clear that he wants more say than previous managers and is seeking assurances overall around the project. Chelsea are said to be working to give those to the Spaniard and view him as their main target.
Chelsea favourites to sign Said El Mala
In other news, it looks like Chelsea are making progress when it comes to signing another top talent. That has been the BlueCo transfer model over the last four years. And despite all the criticism, it is quite evident that they are not willing to completely move away from it, even though tweaks are expected.
Said El Mala has emerged as one of the best bright young talents in the Bundesliga this season. He has scored 12 goals and provided five assists in his debut campaign in the German top flight.
Reports in Germany are claiming that Chelsea are willing to outbid Brighton to sign El Mala. They are willing to send him back on loan to FC Koln as well.
Chelsea plotting bid for Micky van de Ven
Some reports broke out last night that Chelsea are interested in signing Micky van de Ven from Tottenham Hotspur. This interest does not depend on the Spurs’ place in the Premier League moving forward. They might even be willing to offer as much as £65 million for him.
It is quite easy to see that Chelsea need to sign a centre-back this summer. Will that be Van de Ven? Tottenham Hotspur players have rarely made the move to Stamford Bridge in recent memory.
Van de Ven does tick a lot of the boxes though. He is Premier League proven. He has played and won in Europe. And he is a full international for the Netherlands. So, the 25-year-old might be the type of centre-back signing that the Blues are looking to make this summer. If Spurs get relegated, it would become significantly easier to pull off.
