For the most part, it is Arsenal who have signed players from Chelsea. Jorginho, Kai Havertz, Raheem Sterling, Willian, David Luiz, Petr Cech, William Gallas, the list goes on. But right now, they are the ones on top of English football. And the Blues might be looking to sign one of their talents in the upcoming summer transfer window.
During the BlueCo era, Chelsea have been known to sign the best youngsters from around the world. And one of Arsenal’s wonderkids has caught their eye now, as it looks like he could be available this summer.
The player we are talking about is none other than Ethan Nwaneri. He is currently out on loan at Marseille and it has been suggested that he could be made available for a transfer this summer.
According to CaughtOffside, a source said:
“Nwaneri is struggling right now and that means Arsenal are going to have to consider a sale.
“Things can change quickly, but he clearly isn’t progressing as expected, and they’ll feel they can get a decent fee for him.
“Chelsea have tried signing him before. They’re still keeping an eye on how this develops, as are Dortmund, Juventus, and Milan. Many top clubs in England and Europe still see him as a fantastic talent, and he might benefit from a fresh start.”
Chelsea linked with move for Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri again
Of course, this is not the first time that Chelsea have been linked with Nwaneri. But this time around, they should have second thoughts.
The same report goes on to state that Arsenal could be open to letting Nwaneri go for £35-40m. On paper, that does not look like a bad fee for one of the brightest talents in the country. That being said, one has to look at the present situation.
Nwaneri has gone to Marseille and finds himself on the bench now. He has scored two goals in 11 appearances for the club. In the first half of the campaign, he had barely featured for Arsenal. Is that really someone Chelsea want to go out and sign for £40 million transfer fee?
Nwaneri is not what the club need right now
What Chelsea need right now is players who can come in and make an immediate impact. I do not think that Nwaneri is someone who falls under that category.
In fact, the chances of this going down as another bad signing on the part of Chelsea are much higher. Just because Nwaneri was brilliant at youth levels does not mean that translates to the senior game. So far, we have seen evidence that suggests that it is not translating for the Arsenal youngster.
Chelsea have their financial constraints at the moment. And it feels like the Blues can spend that money in much better ways this summer. That is just my opinion. It is also possible that Nwaneri ends up leaving Arsenal and fulfils his potential.
