A lot has been made of Chelsea signing players with experience in a top-five league as well as in European competitions. That would be a tweak to their current strategy, which has revolved around bringing in one high-potential youngster after another to Stamford Bridge. Some of those additions have worked out. But for the most part, the results have not justified the investment. Not even close, to be honest.
So, a tweak has been needed for sure. Some would argue that the club need to do a lot more than just tweaking. Perhaps revamping the transfer policy completely. It remains to be seen if they do that.
Even if they do, that does not mean that the club will move away from signing youngsters completely. That will remain part of the policy at Chelsea, whether for good or bad.
The latest name to be linked with the club is Ghanaian forward. But Chelsea are not the only ones in the race to sign him, as you would expect.
Chelsea eyeing Ghanaian forward looking to make an impact at U-17 AFCON
According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea are actively monitoring Ghanaian Under-17 forward Robinho Yao Gavi. The Blues are said to be the favourites to sign him, ahead of Napoli.
Gavi is expected to lead the line for the Ghanaian team when they face Morocco in the U-17 AFCON opener. And if he can impress at the tournament, that would make a summer move very likely.
Chelsea are currently the best-placed team to sign him. But with other European clubs also interested, that situation might change.
Who Robinho Yao Gavi?
A lot is not known about Gavi. After all, he is still 16 years of age and has not played much football. It is believed that he currently plays for Hakla SC in League One, the second tier of Ghanaian football.
Gavi is also believed to have scored six goals in 12 matches for Hakla SC in League One. That is impressive for someone of his age, no matter which level it comes at.
Now, it remains to be seen whether Chelsea will make their move or not. Of course, even if they are successful in signing Gavi, we would not expect him to be involved in the first-team picture anytime soon. He would most likely be an addition for the academy side with the hope that he develops into senior-level player for the Blues someday.
