Who will be the next manager of Chelsea Football Club? We do not know yet, although a clear shortlist is starting to emerge. When will the appointment be made? Well, it looks like now we have an answer to that question. And it is one that the fans will be happy with and feel like the correct decision on the part of the management.
BlueCo will know that they need to get this next appointment right. Their experimental decision to bring in Liam Rosenior, from sister club Strasbourg, proved to be a complete failure. Now, they have painted themselves into a corner. Another wrong move could have long-term effects on the club after so many mistakes have been made already over the last four seasons.
So, Chelsea should be looking to take their time when it comes to making the next appointment. But that being said, time is also of the essence and they cannot afford to allow this to drag on either.
Just like the squad building process, it is about finding the right balance here as well. BlueCo have not always done that successfully. Let’s hope this proves to be an exception.
When BlueCo want to appoint their next manager
Journalist Kaveh Solhekol said while speaking on the managerial search on Sky Sports (via The Chelsea Chronicle):
“Chelsea are aiming to have a new manager in place by the middle of next month. They now have a shortlist, and on that shortlist, I believe there are five or six names they are focusing on.
“Names on that list include Xabi Alonso, Andoni Iraola, and Marco Silva. They want a new person involved in transfer market planning, and so he is in charge of when Chelsea leave for their pre-season tour.”
There was so much talk about Rosenior needing a pre-season to get his ideas through. Well, it would be meaningless if the next manager is not brought in time to have the opportunity to do exactly that.
Secondly, there has also been a lot of discussion about the next Chelsea manager having their say on the club’s transfer activity. For that to happen, they need to be brought in before the club start making their signings for the summer window.
Chelsea need to get their next manager spot on
Of course, those are the three names that have been doing the rounds of the media for quite some time. It would not be a surprise if the next head coach turns out to be one of them.
That being said, there are supposedly two or three more names in the shortlist. One can only wonder who those might be.
Names like Cesc Fabregas and Filipe Luis have been suggested as well. Perhaps there is somebody else whose name has not leaked to the media yet. But out of the names being mentioned, Alonso seems like the right fit.
