What Xabi Alonso thinks about this Chelsea squad revealed

Share

It is increasingly looking like Xabi Alonso could be the man to get the Chelsea job this summer. Over the past 24 hours, some of the most reliable sources in football have suggested that he is open to the prospect. And while nothing has been officially agreed yet between the two parties, it does look like things are moving in the right direction.

What could help Chelsea is the fact that Liverpool do not seem keen on parting with Arne Slot. A large part of their fanbase is not happy with the Dutch manager. But the Reds seem to want to stick with the Premier League winner.

That is somewhat understandable. Even Jurgen Klopp had bad seasons. So, they cannot make a wrong decision and lose someone who has shown he is capable of delivering major trophies.

Of course, that is great news for Chelsea. The Blues seem like the only top club in the quest to bring in Alonso as a result of Liverpool’s stance on the matter. But the ball is in the Spaniard’s court now. He will need to be convinced to take up the post.

What does Xabi Alonso think about the current Chelsea squad?

There has been a lot of talk about Chelsea handing their next manager more influence in the transfer market. I think that would be the right step, after how things have played out over the last four years.

Plenty of changes are expected over the summer. That being said, what does Alonso think about the current Chelsea squad?

According to the Independent, Alonso feels his football can fit the Chelsea squad. He is said to see how his system can work with most of the club’s existing players.

The Spaniard is keen to return to work this summer. There is still some way to go until a deal is reached, but contact between the camps has progressed over the past week. The noises have been increasingly positive.

Alonso now almost expected to become Chelsea’s next manager

With all the rumours pointing in that direction, it would be a bit of a surprise if Alonso did not end up becoming Chelsea manager. Even though it has been maintained that no deal has been struck yet. It is no secret that the majority of the fanbase would like to see the Spaniard in the hot seat next.

Alonso’s stint at Real Madrid might have been a failure, but he still won more than 70% of his games. And considering what he achieved at Bayer Leverkusen before that, turning a relegation contender into the invincible champions of Germany within two years, his reputation remains strong.

Whether he can deliver in the Premier League or not remains to be seen. But when it comes to chances of success, his might be higher than anybody else on the Chelsea managerial shortlist.
