Jose Mourinho is expected to become the new Real Madrid manager if or when Florentino Perez is named Real Madrid president again. And in that scenario, the Portuguese legend is expected to want to rebuild the squad in his own vision after two majorly disappointing campaigns for Los Blancos. Here is how that could help Chelsea.
Let’s not forget, Xabi Alonso was part of that. He became the Real Madrid manager last summer and was expected to be the long-term replacement to Carlo Ancelotti.
Instead, Alonso was gone half a season later, having failed to keep the dressing room on his side. While that might not have been part of his plan, it did allow Chelsea to go on and sign him.
Now, it is only natural if Alonso wants to bring some of his Real Madrid favourites to Chelsea. The club have been linked with Arda Guler and Dean Huijsen lately. But it looks like Mourinho is ready to say goodbye to a long-term target for the Blues.
Mourinho ready to let rumoured Chelsea target leave
As reported by MARCA, according to journalist Ramon Alvarez, Mourinho has told Real Madrid that six current first team players are not part of his plans for next season. One of them is Eduardo Camavinga.
It was not too long ago that Camavinga was considered one of the most important parts of this Real Madrid team. He was the player you could put anywhere and he would put in a good performance.
He did so time and again under Ancelotti. But in recent times, it does feel like his importance has decreased and his form has declined.
Camavinga has been linked with a potential move to Chelsea since before his Real Madrid days. So, if the Blues do end up making a move for him this summer, it would not come as a surprise.
Camavinga decision needs to lie with Alonso
Any decision to sign a Real Madrid player needs to be made by Alonso, first and foremost. He was at that club merely months ago. So, he will have an understanding of those players.
Obviously, the rumour has always been that a failure to deal with the dressing room was what led to Alonso’s exit. So, what was his dynamic with Camavinga?
A lot might end up depending on that. Chelsea don’t only need good players right now but also those who would fit Alonso’s vision moving forward.
Is Camavinga that player? If so, the club should try to sign him. If not, they should look at other options. Of course, any potential move would depend on the transfer fee Real Madrid would want for the Frenchman.
