Chelsea handed £80m transfer news about midfielder

Midfield is one area where Chelsea might urgently need to strengthen this summer. It is already believed to be a position Xabi Alonso has his eyes on. On top of that, the uncertainty around the future of Enzo Fernandez has made things even more difficult.

Chelsea are believed to be looking for around £120 million to part ways with Enzo Fernandez. Clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester City and PSG have been linked with him. But none might be willing to shell out that kind of a transfer fee to sign him.

Of course, you cannot be certain about Real Madrid. They have seen a €150 million offer completely turned down by Atletico for Julian Alvarez. So, they might have some money to spend this summer and might still make a move for Fernandez. On the other hand, a potential alternative for Chelsea might be out of reach already.

Chelsea handed £80m transfer blow

On the other hand, Chelsea were being linked with a move for Alex Scott of Bournemouth. But now, it looks like that might not be a move worth pursuing if the numbers being thrown around are accurate.

According to Ben Jacobs, Bournemouth value Alex Scott at around £80 million and plan to offer the midfielder a new deal.

Jacobs also goes on to state that Bournemouth owner Bill Foley is intent on keeping Scott and hopes that he’ll sign a new contract, likely with a release clause. This was the case when Antoine Semenyo extended last summer.

Alex Scott move might no longer be viable

Scott has impressed for Bournemouth. That being said, an £80 million move for the youngster simply feels out of reach at this point in time.

Chelsea might be better placed trying to find alternatives outside of the Premier League. English clubs seem to be putting transfer valuations on their talents outside of the reach of even the big six. One has to wonder, can anybody sign these players?

Of course, one issue with signing players from outside the Premier League is not knowing how they would adjust to the pace and physicality of English football.

Chelsea have signed plenty of highly-rated players in the recent past. But those additions have not been able to do much of note after moving to the Premier League.

So, someone like Scott might be a safer choice. At the same time, the move might not be financially viable at all.
