Enzo Maresca is reportedly preparing to become Manchester City manager after Chelsea and City reached an agreement over his exit.
The same report says City and Chelsea have agreed a compensation package worth around €20million.
Maresca will now travel to Manchester to sign a three-year contract, according to the Italian outlet.
Chelsea Settlement Clears City Path
The update matters because Chelsea had held a key role in the process.
Maresca left Stamford Bridge earlier this year, but City still needed to resolve the compensation issue before completing his appointment.
The Guardian previously reported that City were close to a financial settlement with Chelsea. That agreement now appears to have moved the story into its final stage.
Maresca knows City well after working under Pep Guardiola during the club’s treble-winning era.
He now looks set to return in a far bigger role, with the task of succeeding Guardiola and opening a new cycle at the Etihad Stadium.
For Chelsea, the reported €20million agreement gives the club a significant financial settlement and ends a difficult managerial chapter.
ReadChelsea has also covered how Trevoh Chalobah’s Como interest gives Chelsea another summer decision, and this Maresca settlement adds another layer to a busy off-pitch period.
The key caveat remains simple.
Until City announce Maresca officially, this should still be framed as a reported agreement rather than a completed appointment.
