Enzo Fernandez’s Chelsea future has moved back into focus after fresh comments from his agent, Javier Pastore.
FootballTransfers report that Pastore has confirmed Fernandez’s camp are looking at possible routes out of Chelsea before the end of the summer window, with Real Madrid still the obvious club in the background.
The same report places Chelsea’s sale line at €140m, around £120m, for a midfielder who remains one of the club’s highest-value assets.
That figure is the story. Chelsea do not have to sell, but they now have to decide how firmly they want to test Madrid’s interest.
Chelsea Still Hold The Enzo Leverage
Fernandez is not close to the end of his contract. He is not a distressed asset. He is a 25-year-old World Cup winner whose peak years should still fit the project Xabi Alonso has inherited.
That gives Chelsea room to hold their price.
FootballTransfers previously reported that Real Madrid had been linked with Fernandez, while Chelsea have continued to hold a strong contractual hand.
The practical question for Alonso is sharper. Fernandez can still be one of Chelsea’s best tempo-setters, but only if his role is defined quickly.
Read Chelsea has already looked at how Alonso must fix the Cole Palmer and Enzo Fernandez role balance. This latest agent noise makes that issue harder to park.
Chelsea also have another midfield thread running in the background. The Guardian reported last week that the club are interested in Granit Xhaka, a player Alonso knows well from Bayer Leverkusen.
Read Chelsea has covered why the Xhaka pursuit gives Alonso an early midfield control issue. Fernandez’s future now sits above that entire conversation.
A sale only makes sense at Chelsea’s price. Anything lower would weaken Alonso before his first proper pre-season has even settled.
If Madrid are serious, they need to pay like a club trying to take one of Chelsea’s premium midfielders. If they are not, Alonso needs Fernandez back with a clear role and no lingering uncertainty.
Chelsea can live with transfer noise. They cannot let it become drift.
