Ex-Chelsea defender William Gallas makes Graham Potter and England claim given Sweden’s World Cup showing

Graham Potter’s time at Chelsea wasn’t a huge success in the dugout but he has been tipped for the England job and replace Thomas Tuchel should the Three Lions ever part ways with the German.

Sweden take on France in the round of 32 at the World Cup on Tuesday evening with Potter’s side looking to cause a massive upset against the tournament favourites.

Former Chelsea defender William Gallas, speaking to SveaCasino, believes that Potter’s dismal stint at Chelsea, which lasted just seven months, wouldn’t be a barrier given he took the Swedes to the knockout stages in North America and should England ever move on from Thomas Tuchel as head coach.

Gallas said: “If Sweden go far in the competition, it’s natural that England would consider Graham Potter as their next manager. World Cup experience is important.

“It’s good for a manager to have the opportunity to manage different countries, he has a connection with the country that helps.

“But of course if England came calling, it would be hard for him to stay.”

Potter replaced Tuchel at Stamford Bridge in September 2022 but left the Blues after a dire seven-month spell at the club, leaving Chelsea anguishing in 11th place when he was given a brutal axe by BlueCo having won just seven of his 22 games in charge at the club having been handed a massive five-year deal when he was appointed.
