Chelsea midfielder Julia Bartel is closing in on a summer move to Juventus after struggling to secure a regular first-team role.
The Spain youth international joined Chelsea from Barcelona in 2024 on a deal until 2027. She arrived with a strong reputation after developing in one of Europe’s best academy systems.
Bartel made only two Chelsea appearances before joining Atletico Madrid on loan, with both outings coming in the Women’s Champions League.
The 22-year-old had also spent the second half of the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Liverpool. Her move to Atletico then gave her a more regular platform in Spain.
Bartel made 43 appearances during her spell in Madrid and scored six goals. She also started 15 Liga F matches.
Juventus Move Offers Clearer Route
Juventus are expected to finalise a deal in the coming days as they reshape their midfield.
The Italian club need a replacement after Lia Walti joined Brighton earlier this month. Bartel would give them a young technical option with Champions League and Liga F experience.
For Chelsea, the likely exit reflects the depth of the current squad. Sonia Bompastor has a strong midfield group, and Bartel’s route to regular minutes has remained narrow.
ReadChelsea recently covered another development decision at Cobham after Dante Waite signed his first professional contract. Bartel’s situation sits at the other end of the pathway, with a permanent move now looking more useful than another loan.
Chelsea signed Bartel as a high-upside midfielder. Juventus now look set to offer the minutes and status she could not secure in west London.
