Mohamed Salah opens door to shock Chelsea return after Liverpool exit

Mohamed Salah would reportedly be open to returning to Chelsea following his Liverpool departure, although no talks are currently taking place.

The 34-year-old is available as a free agent after bringing his successful nine-year spell at Anfield to an end.

Egyptian broadcaster ONTime Sports claims Salah has told friends that he would consider returning to Stamford Bridge if Chelsea made an approach.

The report adds that Chelsea would be the only English club he would contemplate joining this summer.

However, there is currently no contact, offer or negotiation between Chelsea and Salah’s representatives.

The Sun has also carried the Egyptian report, describing Chelsea as Salah’s preferred option should he remain in the Premier League.

Chelsea face major Salah decision

Salah previously joined Chelsea from Basel in January 2014 but struggled for regular opportunities.

He later rebuilt his career during spells with Fiorentina and Roma before joining Liverpool in 2017.

Salah leaves Anfield as one of the Premier League’s most decorated forwards, having won two league titles and the Champions League.

His age and wage demands would make a deal very different from Chelsea’s usual recruitment model. However, Xabi Alonso’s young squad lacks an attacker with Salah’s experience and proven output.

As Read Chelsea previously examined, the Blues have already been linked with adding a more established Premier League forward to support their developing attackers.

Salah would arrive without a transfer fee, although his salary would still represent a major commitment.

Chelsea have not shown they intend to pursue the opportunity. The reported willingness from Salah simply leaves the door open should the club decide an experienced match-winner is needed.
