Chelsea have received a boost after Nicolas Jackson decided he wants to stay at Stamford Bridge and impress new head coach Xabi Alonso.
Aston Villa are among several Premier League clubs showing interest in the Senegal international. Unai Emery remains keen on reuniting with the striker after helping him establish himself in European football at Villarreal.
However, SunSport reports that Jackson is focused on returning to Chelsea rather than pursuing an immediate transfer. His representatives have reportedly been told that the Blues are prepared to reintegrate him into Alonso’s squad.
Jackson is currently on holiday following Senegal’s World Cup campaign. He is expected to join Chelsea’s pre-season tour, which begins in Sydney on 28 July and finishes in Malaysia on 9 August.
Jackson ready to fight for Chelsea place
The 25-year-old spent last season on loan at Bayern Munich after falling down Chelsea’s attacking hierarchy. He scored 11 goals in 34 appearances during his season in Germany.
Jackson now appears ready to compete for his place under a new manager. ReadChelsea previously reported that Alonso plans to assess Jackson during pre-season before making final decisions over his forward options.
Competition remains strong. João Pedro, Liam Delap and Emmanuel Emegha are among Alonso’s available central attackers, while the expected arrival of Morgan Rogers will provide another versatile attacking option.
Jackson’s pace, movement and ability to link play still offer Chelsea qualities which differ from their other strikers. A strong tour could push him back into Alonso’s plans and remove the need for another expensive addition.
Chelsea could reconsider their position if a major offer arrives later in the window. For now, Jackson wants another opportunity at Stamford Bridge, while Villa must wait to see whether his situation changes.
