Garnacho’s comments on his Chelsea exit have attracted attention after the winger highlighted Aston Villa’s Champions League qualification. The 22-year-old also admitted he needed to rediscover his confidence following a disappointing single season at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea allowed Garnacho to join Villa on a season-long loan after Xabi Alonso made clear that regular minutes could not be guaranteed.
The Argentina international started only 14 Premier League matches last season. He scored eight goals in all competitions but struggled to produce consistently under Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior.

“I think it’s also important to play European competitions,” Garnacho said during his first Aston Villa interview.
“Joining to play in the Champions League also is important. Champions League is the best.”
Chelsea finished 10th last season and will not play in Europe during Alonso’s first campaign. Garnacho’s comments could therefore be viewed as a subtle dig at his former club, although he did not directly criticise Chelsea.
The winger instead focused on rebuilding his confidence under Unai Emery.
“I was looking for a club to get confidence and try to be the player that I was years ago,” he added.
Garnacho’s departure has reduced the competition inside an increasingly crowded Chelsea attack. Morgan Rogers has arrived from Villa, while Jamie Gittens, Pedro Neto, Estevão and Geovany Quenda can all operate from wide positions.

Chelsea will hope Garnacho performs well enough to trigger the conditional purchase obligation included in his Villa agreement. The exact fee and conditions have not been disclosed.
Garnacho’s comments on his Chelsea exit may frustrate some supporters. However, the move gives the winger the regular football he could not be promised at Stamford Bridge while creating more space in Alonso’s squad.
