Pep Chavarria to Chelsea: Romano gives ‘here we go’ after €21m deal

Chelsea have reached a full agreement with Rayo Vallecano to sign Pep Chavarria, with Fabrizio Romano giving the move his “here we go” confirmation late on Thursday night.

The Pep Chavarria to Chelsea deal is worth €19million up front plus €2m in add-ons.

Chavarria is now expected to travel for his medical and complete his contract before becoming the latest addition to Xabi Alonso’s squad.

Football365 report that Romano confirmed the agreement had been completed, with club-to-club signatures taking place and the Spanish left-back preparing to travel for the final formalities.

Pep Chavarria to Chelsea ends lengthy Rayo negotiations

Chelsea have spent several weeks trying to reach an agreement after identifying Chavarria as one of Alonso’s defensive targets.

Rayo previously resisted Chelsea’s proposals, with negotiations appearing to stall when the Spanish club pushed for stronger financial terms.

ReadChelsea reported earlier in the window that Chelsea were preparing a €25m bid after reaching an agreement with Chavarria. Personal terms were already in place, leaving the clubs to find common ground over the transfer fee.

That has now happened.

The final agreement is reported to be €19m guaranteed plus €2m in add-ons, giving Chelsea a package worth up to €21m.

Chavarria should provide another natural option on the left of Alonso’s defence. He can operate as a conventional full-back or further forward as a wing-back, giving Chelsea additional flexibility following Marc Cucurella’s departure.

His arrival would also come while Chelsea continue reshaping the defensive group.

ReadChelsea reported on Thursday that Benoit Badiashile has given the green light to a potential Napoli move, with negotiations progressing over a possible €23m package.

Chelsea are therefore working on arrivals and departures simultaneously as Alonso puts his own stamp on the squad.

After weeks of negotiations, Pep Chavarria to Chelsea has now reached the medical and paperwork stage. Official confirmation should follow once those final steps are completed.
