Joao Pedro wins Premier League Player of the Month award

Joao Pedro has been named the EA Sports Premier League Player of the Month for August 2026 after an outstanding start to Chelsea’s season.

It is the Brazilian’s first Premier League Player of the Month award and makes him the first Chelsea player to win the prize since Cole Palmer in September 2024.

Joao Pedro beat Chelsea team-mate Palmer and six other nominees following the public vote.

His victory comes after registering two goals and two assists across Chelsea’s opening two Premier League matches.

As the Premier League highlighted when announcing the August shortlist, Joao Pedro started the campaign with four direct goal contributions as Chelsea won their opening two league fixtures.

Joao Pedro rewarded after flying Chelsea start

Joao Pedro made an immediate impact against Fulham.

He opened the scoring inside the opening minute before later setting up Palmer for Chelsea’s winning goal.

The pair combined again against Brighton at Stamford Bridge.

Joao Pedro scored Chelsea’s third before providing the assist for Palmer’s decisive strike.

That form has reinforced his position at the heart of Xabi Alonso’s attack.

ReadChelsea recently covered how Alonso made Chelsea’s striker hierarchy clear after Danny Welbeck scored twice against Leeds, with Joao Pedro remaining the first-choice Premier League option.

His long-term importance has already been underlined away from the pitch.

Chelsea confirmed last month that Joao Pedro had committed his future to the club with a new long-term contract.

He has now added individual Premier League recognition to an excellent opening month.

The next opportunity comes against Hull City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, where Alonso will hope his first-choice striker can continue that run.
