Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong helps England seal Euro 2027 place with a qualifying game to spare

Josh Acheampong played the full 90 minutes as England Under-21s secured qualification for the 2027 European Championship with a goalless draw against Slovakia.

The Chelsea defender helped Lee Carsley’s side keep a clean sheet in Stoke on Friday, with the point confirming their place at next summer’s finals.

According to Chelsea’s international round-up, Acheampong also threatened at the other end, forcing a good save with a powerful effort shortly before half-time.

Josh Acheampong builds on England U21 goal

The qualification milestone follows Acheampong’s goal in England’s 4-2 victory over Kazakhstan last week.

He put England ahead during that match at Molineux, before second-half goals from Max Alleyne and Will Lankshear secured the victory.

The FA’s report of that win set out the opportunity to qualify against Slovakia. England have now taken it, leaving Tuesday’s trip to face the Republic of Ireland in Cork as their final group fixture.

The finals will take place in Albania and Serbia, where England will seek to defend their title.

For Acheampong, the international window has delivered a goal, another full match and a place in a successful qualifying campaign.

His involvement in next summer’s tournament will depend on selection, but Friday’s result gives him another major target to work towards alongside his Chelsea ambitions.
