Chelsea target Alex Scott faces weeks out as Bournemouth await scans before Stamford Bridge clash

Key takeaways

  • Alex Scott: Has left England’s squad and returned to Bournemouth for assessment.
  • Bournemouth: Could lose the midfielder for several weeks, according to Sky Sports.
  • Chelsea: Host the Cherries on Saturday, with Scott’s availability now in doubt.

Chelsea target Alex Scott has withdrawn from England duty with an injury that threatens his involvement in Bournemouth’s visit to Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

England confirmed on Monday morning that Scott had returned to his club for further assessment and would miss Tuesday’s Nations League match against Czechia.

Sky Sports reports a tendon injury, with initial indications suggesting an absence of several weeks. Further scans are planned.

Alex Scott injury casts doubt over Chelsea appearance

Bournemouth face Chelsea on 10 October, the first game in the Blues’ run of fixtures after the international break.

The setback follows Scott’s first England start in Saturday’s 7-0 victory over Croatia, when he played 70 minutes alongside Elliot Anderson.

Thomas Tuchel said England had received assurances about his fitness before the match.

“We knew he was in treatment but we only got green lights from him and the medics,” Tuchel told reporters, as quoted by Reuters.

The injury comes after fresh reporting on Chelsea’s continuing interest in Scott, following rejected summer bids thought to exceed £60million.

England’s announcement did not specify a recovery period. Bournemouth’s assessment will determine the extent of the injury and clarify his availability for Saturday.
