Reports: Mourinho Set to Extend Chelsea Deal Through 2019

On Monday night, Duncan Castles of ONE World Sport reported that Chelsea manager José Mourinho had agreed on a two-year extension to his current deal with the club, which will keep him in West London through 2019. No figures were listed, but Castles reports that the deal will maintain Mourinho’s status as the Premier League’s highest paid manager.

“According to sources familiar with the negotiations, discussions about revising the four-season contract Mourinho agreed upon his 2013 return to Stamford Bridge, began at the end of last year. A verbal agreement has now been reached, with the deal expected to be formally concluded before the end of Chelsea’s successful Premier League campaign.”

Mourinho initially agreed to a deal through the 2017 season upon his return to Chelsea in 2013 after six years away from the club.

During his first stint in charge at the Bridge, Mourinho led the Blues to back-to-back Premier League titles in 2004-05 and 2005-06, and added an FA Cup and a pair of League Cups to the trophy cabinet. During his time away from CFC, the Special One found success in both Italy and Spain, as he led Inter Milan to two Serie A titles, one Coppa Italia, two Italian Super Cups and a UEFA Champions League crown before winning La Liga, a Copa Del Rey and a Spanish Super Cup during his stint with Real Madrid.

Mourinho’s Blues had already secured another League Cup this season in his second year back with Chelsea, and on Sunday they secured another Premier League crown with a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace that mathematically cemented CFC as the champions of England. After coming close a season ago before finishing third behind Manchester City and Liverpool, Mourinho recruited the services of Diego Costa and Cesc Fàbregas, which added considerable strength to the squad and drove Chelsea to the top of the league in 2014-15 while losing just two league matches along the way.

José has said repeatedly since his return that he would like to coach Chelsea as long as owner Roman Abromavich will have him, which seems like it will be a long time to come according to the details of Castles’ report.
