According to the Express, Borussia Dortmund’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke, has revealed to German newspaper Blid that Chelsea did try and sign Robert Lewandowski before he sealed a move to Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich.
Part of the attempted transfer deal was to include Kevin De Bruyne, who has since moved to Wolfsburg and is believed to be a target for the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester City. Should Chelsea have been able to lure Lewandowski to Stamford Bridge, it was likely that the Belgian midfielder would have gone to Dortmund to apply his trade.
Watzke told Bild: “It [signing De Bruyne] would have fitted well into the planning. But the conditions could not be agreed“. Since then, the Polish striker has gone on to move to Bayern Munich and is now believed to be a target for Manchester United. Dortmund’s CEO went on to say: “Chelsea were unwilling to let him go because they were angry that Robert Lewandowski had not gone to Chelsea.”
How do you think Lewandowski would have managed at Stamford Bridge?
