Chelsea linked with €250m move for three Barcelona players

It has been quite some time since Chelsea signed established players. The club’s entire transfer policy has revolved around bringing in youngsters from around the world and hoping that they develop according to expectations, becoming world-class down the line.

Unfortunately, that has not worked out often. Only the likes of Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo have come close to that level. Perhaps we could add Joao Pedro’s name to that list in the future if he can keep on performing at his current level.

Most fans would like to see the club tweak their transfer policy though. More experience and proven quality are needed in this side if they are to take the next step anytime soon.

If rumours coming out of Spain are anything to go by, Chelsea might be getting ready to do that. Three of Barcelona’s current first-team players are rumoured to be on their radar.

Chelsea reportedly eyeing moves for three Barcelona players

According to Football 365, a Catalan media outlet has reported that Chelsea are planning an offer of €250 million for three players. Jules Kounde, Dani Olmo and Raphinha are the Barcelona trio that the Blues are keen on signing this summer.

Interestingly, Chelsea have been linked with all three in the past. During BlueCo’s first summer transfer window, they wanted Kounde and Raphinha. But both ended up joining Barcelona and have stayed there. Olmo had been on the Blues’ radar at some point, too, if rumours are to be believed. That move did not happen either. Perhaps it could in the summer.

Could Chelsea sign Barcelona trio this summer?

Someone like Raphinha could certainly improve Chelsea. Last season, he was playing at a Ballon d’Or level. In this campaign, the Brazilian winger has scored 14 goals and provided 5 assists in 27 appearances as well.

Kounde has not been the most impressive lately. So, he might be the easiest to sign out of the three. But would it be the right idea to bring in an underperforming defender, when the Chelsea defence has already been struggling all season?

Thirdly, Olmo is another player who could improve this Chelsea team. That being said, his injury problems since joining Barcelona might be something that the Blues must consider before making any kind of major investment on trying to sign the Spaniard.

Also, Chelsea need to work under budget constraints for the foreseeable future after being fined by UEFA. If they make a €250 million move for the trio, that would mean the exit of plenty of their current crop of players. Who would those be?
