Sky Sports Pundit and former Arsenal great Paul Merson has urged Jose Mourinho and Chelsea to sign Aston Villa’s big striker, Christian Benteke, to help them on their title push for next season.
With Didier Drogba announcing yesterday that he has played his last game in a Chelsea shirt, Merson believes it’s vital that Mourinho adds another striker to his team, as he doesn’t rate Loic Remy enough to be a Chelsea striker.
Merson told Sky Sports: “Benteke ticks all the boxes.”
“I don’t think (Loic) Remy is that good. If you played Remy for 10 games I don’t think they would win the league.
“I think the way Benteke plays he could come in for (Diego) Costa like-for-like.”
With both Diego Costa and Loic Remy’s a constant issue for the Chelsea staff, it’s without doubt that the Premier League champions sign a forward during the summer. Plenty of names have been linked with a move to West London, including Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann, who only move to the Vincente Calderon last year. Another name that has been rumoured to be wanted by Mourinho, is Mauro Icardi from Serie A side, Juventus.
It does go without saying that Jose Mourinho will need to add fresh faces in the summer, to replace the ones heading for the departure door at Stamford Bridge.
