A report on Friday from Le10Sport has indicated that Chelsea are interested in Napoli left-back Faouzi Ghoulam, but the Blues will have to battle the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City for the 24-year-old’s services.
With current second-choice left-back Filipe Luís having been linked with a return to Atlético Madrid for some time now, the report suggests that José Mourinho is looking at Ghoulam as a replacement for the Brazilian behind César Azpilicueta.
Real Madrid, who have just taken on former Napoli manager Rafa Benítez, are said to be after Ghoulam as well after he became a favourite of the manager over the course of the last campaign in Serie A. The Algerian registered four assists in all competitions for Napoli while making 20 starts in league play.
In addition to the interest from Real Madrid, Manuel Pelligrini and Manchester City are also interested. The main question for Mourinho and Chelsea is whether or not Ghoulam would be content to move to Stamford Bridge knowing he will be fighting for time behind the excellent Azpilicueta on the left.
