Chelsea News Today: Estevao, Terzic, Lampard, Xavi & Alonso

Share

These have been a hectic few days if you are Chelsea. The club decided to sack Liam Rosenior after the defeat against Brighton. BlueCo had seemed keen on continuing to back the manager at least until he had gotten the next pre-season, but after five league defeats in a row without scoring a goal, his position had become untenable.

If there was going to be any chance of Rosenior remaining in the job, that ended when he publicly questioned the desire of some of his players after losing to Brighton. In reports that have come out in the media since his departure, it has been suggested that he had gradually lost the dressing room, with some not agreeing with the decision to sack Enzo Maresca in the first place.

Unsurprisingly, the Chelsea rumour mill has been full of managers the club could appoint next. But on the other hand, it looks like some are already being ruled out as well.

Edin Terzic moves seems off already

Edin Terzic is someone Chelsea have been linked with over the past 48 hours. He took Borussia Dortmund to the Champions League final and was unlucky not to win the Bundesliga title with them, during his stint as the club’s manager.

But it has emerged that Terzic has terms in place with Athletic Bilbao. While nothing is finalised yet, it looks like he is heading to Spain, meaning a move to Chelsea is off the table.

That could make things easier if Chelsea want to bring in Andoni Iraola. He was widely expected to return to his former club in the summer before this Terzic news broke.

Worrying Estevao injury update drops

Estevao picked up an injury in the game against Manchester United. And there are hopes that he could be fit in time to face Tottenham Hotspur next month.

That being said, reports have emerged in Brazil which will worry about the real extent of his injury. According to Cahe Mota, Estevao is talking to convince Chelsea to release him to receive treatment under CBF’s supervision for the dream of the World Cup. The London club initially wanted to operate on the posterior thigh muscle.

Could Estevao be potentially overlooking proper treatment in order to feature at the World Cup? If so, it would be a major mistake as he has a long career ahead of him and will get plenty of chances. But if he ends up aggravating the issue, there is a chance it could derail his future in the game.

The next ideal Chelsea manager

Quite a few big-name midfielders have been linked with the Chelsea job in recent days. Joe Cole has openly admitted that he would like to see Xabi Alonso in the post.

On the other hand, Frank Lampard refused to be drawn into talks about a return to his former club. Although he admitted that Chelsea remains a big part of his life.

Xavi is another who has been suggested as a potential candidate. And it is worth mentioning that he called Chelsea a ‘good project’ just last year.
