Earlier today, we brought you the news that Chelsea have offered £11m to use Wembley as a temporary home when they start the much anticipated plans to re-develop Stamford Bridge.
Speaking in the Daily Mail, Barnaby Slater from Spurred on TV has given his reaction to the news. Spurs fans are believed to unhappy about the news, adding to the fierce rivalry between the two clubs. Tottenham are also interested in using Wembley as they are also expecting developments to White Hart Lane.
Fans are seeing the news regarding Wembley as a hat-trick from Chelsea, after the Blues blocked Tottenham’s chance at Champions League football with their historic win in Munich back in 2012. As well as completing the transfer of Willian after the Brazilian looked set for a move to White Hart Lane.
Slater had this to say: “And now Chelsea are looking to complete their hat-trick by finding £11 million in loose change down the back of Roman Abramovich’s sofa to pay the FA for temporary use of Wembley Stadium while they redevelop their rickety old shed of a ground.”
“This grinds somewhat. We need somewhere to go to as we develop White Hart Lane over the next few years and Wembley would be the natural option. It’s just a few miles down the road, it has excellent transport links, and it could house 50,000 screaming Spurs fans every other week.”
