Chelsea have moved a step closer to securing a deal for AFC Wimbledon’s stadium.
According to Sky Sports, the AFC Wimbledon Trust’s second round of voting has resulted in favour of the sale of their stadium to Chelsea, who intend to use Kingsmeadow stadium as their new base for their ladies and youth teams.
Next month, the Dons shareholders will have their vote at their AGM, however, the Dons Trust controls over 90% of the shares of AFC Wimbledon and their vote will be the majority.

Erik Samuelson told The Dons Trust:
We now need to turn that determination into reality by finalising the agreement with Chelsea to sell the stadium to them, getting planning permission for the new stadium and getting all the commercial arrangements in place.
There is still a lot of work to do before Chelsea gain control of the stadium as Wimbledon have to agree on a planning application for their new football stadium in the London borough of Merton.

The Blues have agreed a deposit of £600,000 for the acquisition of Kingsmeadow but still need to work out the final financial details with Wimbledon.
The Dons Trust Chairman, Matthew Breach, told the Dons’ website:
The successful vote on the stadium sale is an important milestone in helping to return AFC Wimbledon to its spiritual home in Merton.
If the shareholders vote in favour of the sale, it should only be a matter of time before Chelsea acquire the rights for the stadium and eventually move in.
