‘Out of his depth’ – Chelsea fans react to loss vs Newcastle United

The day had started with a briefing that a Chelsea director was convinced that it was obvious we were building one of the best teams in the world. The day ended with the Blues suffering a 1-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge against Newcastle United. With that, they might have bid their chances of Champions League qualification goodbye.

The only thing that seems to be obvious is that this Chelsea squad is not good enough. It is also quite clear that whatever plan that the BlueCo owners and sporting directors have in place is not working. In fact, it has flopped badly. You cannot spend north of a billion pounds and not even be good enough to qualify for the Champions League consistently. Other clubs have bad seasons. The Blues are stuck in a rut they cannot, or refuse to, get out of.

Common sense would suggest that the club would think about changing their ways and rethink the model. Yet, there is nothing to suggest that they have any intention of doing that.

On the contrary, they might be doubling down. The most clear indication of that might have been the decision to hire Liam Rosenior.

Chelsea fans turn on Rosenior after losing to Newcastle United

Rosenior might have made a decent start as Chelsea manager. But his team are fading away badly. While the Blues had grown into the season previously. They seem to be on their last legs right now. Not only did they lose against Newcastle United, but they looked tired and toothless.

A lot of Chelsea fans seem to have already seen enough of Rosenior and feel it is time to go. One wrote on X: “Just wish we went for experience, both in management and in the team. Crying out for an experienced centre back. Liam Rosenior looks out of his depth, hopefully get goes in the summer.”

Another wrote: “Liam Rosenior should start preparing to be sacked. He should start packing his bags.”

That was the general consensus amongst the support after the defeat at the hands of Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge. Do not forget, the Magpies were 12th coming into this match day.

Chelsea refuse to learn from past mistakes

For years, fans have been calling out for the club to change their model. At times, at least to me, it has felt like this ownership is more concerned with reinventing football than brining success to the club.

An inexperienced manager like Rosenior is the last thing this team needed. Yet, here we are. The club were more comfortable hiring someone from within their structure than making an ambitious move.

Four years into the BlueCo project, Chelsea should have been one of the best teams in the Premier League. The investment has been there. But unfortunately, the strategy has been completely off the mark.

It is very possible that the damage has already been done. Now, the club have to work under financial constraints and it is not going to be easy to solve this. And to be honest, it does not look like the ownership thinks that there is much of a problem at all. It is hard to see where we go from here, to be honest.
