Douglas Costa has revealed how close he came to joining Chelsea and why he decided on Bayern Munich over the current Premier League champions.
Whilst the Brazilian was at Shakhtar Donetsk, he was the subject of an intense transfer saga, that looked like it would end up with the winger signing for Chelsea. Costa even admitted when he playing Ukraine he wanted to work with Jose Mourinho.
He said:
We have a wonderful coach in Mircea Lucescu, but I think it’s time for a change and I think Mourinho is the best in the world.
Just as it looked destined for him to sign, he joined Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich. According to ESPN, Costa reveals that Guardiola played a big part in his decision to join the German giants.
Chelsea also wanted me, there was great interest and they made great efforts, but I wanted to join Pep Guardiola by all means. And Bayern. It was a conscious decision in favour of Pep and Bayern because I was convinced that I can learn more here.

Costa joined Bayern for €30 million during the summer and has gone on to star in Guardiola’s side. This season the 25-year-old has scored five goals in all competitions.
Chelsea look to be going through a very similar situation this season, with Alex Teixeira, a former team-mate of Costa, who has revealed his desire to join Chelsea.
