Chelsea’s horrific title defense has been the result of a plethora of reasons, but the club’s lack of offensive productivity is most certainly one of them. The champions’ deficiency of goals has prompted rumours of a possible transfer bid for Leicester City star Jamie Vardy this January.
Matt Law of The Telegraph has reported that Manuel Pellegrini and his Manchester City side have appeared to be interested in signing Vardy as well. Sergio Aguero’s fitness problems have seen Wilfried Bony get more playing time as well as the rise of youngster Kelechi Iheanacho, but the Citizens, who currently sit third in the Barclays Premier League table, are looking to add another striker to their squad.
While Chelsea’s interest in Vardy is “more solid”, they may see themselves having to battle Manchester City for his signature.

The 28-year-old has risen to fame this season by breaking Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record of scoring in 10 consecutive Premier League games. Vardy has 15 goals this term, scoring against Chelsea last week ahead of manager Jose Mourinho’s departure.
It won’t be easy for Chelsea to snatch up the Englishman though, league-leading Leicester City are reportedly planning on offering Vardy both a contract extension and a pay raise in order to keep him at the club.
