Over the last few weeks, there has been a ton of talk about Chelsea’s best players leaving the club. BlueCo’s model might not be built for sustainable success. But top stars want to compete for trophies on a constant basis. Naturally, some might feel that they need to depart in order to meet their goals.
Enzo Fernandez is someone who might fall under that category. In fact, after the events over the last few weeks, it is hard not to feel that the Argentine is already inching towards the exit door. He has even been left out of Chelsea’s next two games as a sanction.
But Fernandez is not the only one to be linked with a move away from Chelsea lately. There have been quite a few others as well.
One of them is Fernandez’s midfield partner, Moises Caicedo. But while the Argentine has refused to rule out a potential exit, the Ecuadorian international has done the exact opposite, openly ruling out any potential move away from Stamford Bridge in the near future.
Moises Caicedo rules out Chelsea exit in the near future
Chelsea had faced heavy competition from Liverpool for the signature of Caicedo in the summer of 2023. Ultimately, the Blues agreed to pay a £115 million transfer fee to sign him from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Since then, Caicedo has developed into one of the best midfielders in the world. Most clubs in Europe would jump at the chance to sign the Ecuadorian midfielder. But for now, he seems to be completely focused on Chelsea.
According to Sport Witness, Caicedo said in an interview with AS:
“Yes, Chelsea are a great club. They’ve helped me a lot since I arrived. I want to repay them and stay there as long as I can.”
Of course, things can change very quickly in football. It was not long ago that Fernandez seemed completely in line with BlueCo’s vision. When asked about Real Madrid, Caicedo did not completely rule out a future move, although he reiterated that he was focused on Chelsea:
“[Smiles] You never know in football, don’t you think? I have a contract with Chelsea now.
“The truth is, I haven’t thought about any other club or leaving London, but you never know. All I want is to enjoy myself. I have a contract and I want to keep playing as long as God allows. After that, we’ll see what happens and what surprises the future holds.”
Caicedo should be at Stamford Bridge for years to come
If the BlueCo project is going to ever be successful, they need to make sure that players like Caicedo stay at Chelsea for years to come. He is one of the few that falls under the ‘world-class’ bracket. The club do not have many of them at the moment.
Caicedo seems to be someone who genuinely wants to succeed at Chelsea. Now, it is up to the club to surround him with the right players. Those who are capable of competing for trophies.
Right now, Chelsea are too reliant on youngsters. They need some experience around them as well. Proven players who can guide these talents and help them make the jump from potential to reality. That is an essential part of squad building that BlueCo have overlooked for the past four seasons. Hopefully, the recent events will convince them to rethink their strategy.
