FC Barcelona seriously interested in signing Chelsea player

Share

After spending more than a billion pounds since the BlueCo takeover, Chelsea are currently going through another underwhelming season. Many fans are already looking forward to the upcoming summer transfer window in order to reinforce their squad, which looks nowhere near good enough at the moment.

Meanwhile, a few of the players who have been at the club for the past few seasons already seem to be growing tired of the BlueCo’s transfer policy. That project now needs to be brought back to the drawing board and restructured if Chelsea are to compete at the highest level with the other big clubs going forward.

One of the Blues’ leaders, Marc Cucurella, openly criticised the ownership’s transfer policy. Enzo Fernandez appears to have a foot out of the door already, and the club have left him out of the next two games.

Cole Palmer is also being linked with a move to Manchester United after a gloomy season, largely due to a problematic groin injury which has troubled him since the Club World Cup. And now, another of Chelsea’s better performers could be on his way out.

Barcelona showing interest in Joao Pedro

As reported by CaughtOffside, Barcelona have a serious transfer interest in Joao Pedro, according to journalist Simon Phillips on his Substack.

Pedro joined Chelsea last summer from Brighton & Hove Albion on a long-term contract. It will expire in 2033. So, it would be unlikely that the London club would let one of their top prospects leave after only a year, especially as he has been one of their few decent additions in recent times.

Pedro has already scored 21 goals and provided nine assists for Chelsea in all competitions since joining the club in the summer. It is also worth noting that he has not played as an out-and-out striker in many games.

Chelsea should not consider Joao Pedro exit

Barcelona might just be in the lookout for a player like Pedro. Barca’s system over the years has seen some fantastic false nine forwards emerge alongside strikers like Luis Suarez and Robert Lewandowski.

Now, with the Polish number nine’s departure from the Camp Nou looking imminent, Barca might just make a move for the Chelsea forward if their attempts to bring in Julian Alvarez fail.

The probable transfer fee for the Brazilian might look attractive on paper. But the Blues should look to hold on to one of their brightest prospects of the current campaign and try to build around him next season.
