Chelsea academy defender Dante Waite has signed his first professional contract after rising through the club’s Cobham pathway.
The 17-year-old joined Chelsea at Under-8 level through the club’s development centre. He has since developed into a regular centre-back in the academy system.
Waite featured often for the Under-18s as a schoolboy during the 2024/25 season. He then became a consistent part of the defence after signing his scholarship.
Chelsea also handed Waite the Under-18 captaincy for the 2025/26 campaign. That role underlined his progress at Cobham and his standing within the age group.
Waite Continues Cobham Progress
Waite gained UEFA Youth League experience last season. He made two appearances in wins over Qarabag and Atalanta.
He also played an important role in domestic success. Chelsea’s Under-18s won the Premier League South title before beating Manchester City in the Premier League National Final.
Waite captained the side in that final victory over City. It added another strong marker to a season built on leadership and consistency.
The defender has also stepped into international football with England Under-18s. He made two appearances in May, featuring in wins over Greece and Cyprus.
Chelsea’s academy continues to give young players a clear development route. Waite’s first professional deal keeps one of Cobham’s most trusted young defenders moving along that path.
