One striker out, for one striker in at Chelsea

One striker out, for one striker in at Chelsea

With Radamel Falcao injured and Diego Costa needing a prominent goalscorer to take the weight of his shoulder, reports from the Daily Star are suggesting that Roman Abramovich has told Guus Hiddink that any new striker would have to be signed after one is let go.

With Monaco not allowing a return for Falcao, this means that Loic Remy would have to leave. There is no doubt the Frenchman would arouse interest from a whole host of Premier League clubs. Indeed, a return to Newcastle United could seem like an ideal move, at a club he knows well, and a club who desperately needs a striker to finish chances.

Playing every week in the Premier League would certainly do no harm to Remy’s chances for the national side either, with the likes of Karim Benzema, Alexandre Lacazette, Oliver Giroud and Antoine Griezmann ahead of him, it seems unlikely that he will be named in the French squad for this summer’s Euros.

Chelsea have been rumoured to be interested in former AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato, who is generating a lot of English interest. Perhaps now, with the transfer bans the Spanish pair of Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are facing, it seems that Chelsea’s striker will not come from the Spanish capital.

Whilst the Premier League season may effectively be over for the reigning champions, they still have the Champions League to consider, with a top 10 finish in the league still not impossible, but a top four almost certainly, winning the competition is now Chelsea’s best chance of competing in it next year. But for that to happen, Hiddink really needs an extra striker.
