Nathaniel Chalobah may have thought he cemented his place in the Chelsea first-team squad last season, but he’s still seeking assurances over his future at the club.
Upon his return to London from the U21 European Championships where England went out on penalties in the semi-final to Germany, Chalobah will be sitting down for talks with Chelsea regarding his future, say the London Evening Standard.
The 22-year-old midfielder has spent six loan spells away from Chelsea in his early career before making 16 appearances in all competitions last season as Chelsea won the Premier League title.
Planned talks next week are expected to cover a new contract at Stamford Bridge, as well as a possible loan move this summer for the England youth international.
Chelsea are eager to sign Chalobah down to a new five-year contract, but the midfielder has reservations about penning an extension to his deal which is set to expire at the end of next season as he wants clarity over his long-term role at the club.
With Tiemoue Bakayoko set to join Chelsea, this only adds competition for places in midfield and Chalobah could be the odd man out.
It has been reported that Chelsea will look to send the academy graduate out on a seventh loan move this summer if they can’t guarantee him a first-team role, and a loan transfer this summer is the most likely outcome.
